When running up a hill, it is all right to give up as many times as you wish -- as long as your feet keep moving.

The driving force of tremendous change

There is a root cause to all of the things we will ever acheive, all of the determination we will ever have, every action we will ever take. In this article I'm going to discuss what that powerful starting point of change is and how to discover it in yourself.

We become what we think about…

…is such an oversimplification.

The problem with information without experience is that it’s useless.

I want to share with you the real driving force behind massive change.

500 hours of watching self-improvement DVDs and thousands of pages of text will likely do you nothing unless you both seek new experiences by taking action and reference your applicable experience.

Actions

Some action is not always so easy to take, and some experiences are not readily to be had. They must be sought out, barriers must be broken, if you wish to achieve high you have to not only aim high but also launch yourself with enough power.

But what is the driving force behind action? What are the seeds that pre-empt action?

Will is the tool which transforms thought into action. More specifically the type of will which effects real change in the world is something which I refer to as Aggressive Determination. But this kind of powerful determination does not simply generate itself or manifest without a reason.

The true core from which this powerful determination comes is a deep desire. An absolute raging impulse at the heart of your being, a screaming roaring tearing lust which howls from the heart of your soul. These are the kinds of primal impulses which you must truly tap into.

Think about it, what is it that you really want to happen in your life? If everyone went perfect for you over the next year, what would it be like and what exactly would you have that you so deeply crave?

To own your dream property in your dream location? To find the perfect partner? To travel the world?

But why, really? What is it about that thing that you really want that makes you want it?

The logical answers to these questions are relatively irrelevant.

Think now about that thing which you really want to have, or which you really want to be. How do you know that you want it?

What you should really pay attention to is the feeling which arises in your body as you think about these grand dreams which you have for your life.

That feeling is your deep desire.

Grasp on to it, embrace it, feel it pulse inside you. Let it grow in size and glow and roar louder.

Now think of another dream, and let the feeling you have towards that one come into you, and experience that.

How does it differ? Which feeling is stronger? Which dream did you think you cared more about?

What you want to do is to discover the things which really set off that inner-firework. When you find those things you are one step closer to achieving complete fulfilment.

Perceptions

There is another side to the coin, this is the side of perception. We are nothing more than the perceptions we have. Our reality is nothing more than the experiences we’ve had, and the experiences we are having now. Perception is a crucial construct making up that reality.

So naturally what we want is positive perceptions; perceptions of reality which favour our outlook. We want to see all our successes, and see all the places we can succeed in the future. On top of that we want to be insanely happy about everything we've got - leave the successful depressives to Hollywood.

There are countless examples of people who objectively had it all, but were so internally unhappy that they drove themselves into destruction or committed suicide. Most of these people had weak or unproductive perceptions of the world; they couldn’t see the great wealth they had.

There are so many ways of looking at the world. The same situation can be seen as awful or awesome depending on how all those electromagnetic signals are interpreted by the numerous filters and systems in the human neuro-perceptual system.

By having a directed focus we can begin to direct our perception. First think of the colour red; now focus on that colour in your mind. You will notice how you begin to spot all the red objects in your current field of vision. Your perception of the world is changed by your focus.

This is a relatively small example of a vastly powerful truth about reality. In longer expanses of time complex focuses become heavily imprinted in our mind so that our entire 100% beliefs and perceptions of our reality are completely changed. Hence why people with almost no material wealth can be ecstatically happy and people who seemingly ‘have it all’ can be clinically suicidal.

Can you think of a way of change your focus so that your perception is positively affected? How would you change your focus? What does it mean to focus on something that you want? What is the driving force behind that focus. The answer has already been mentioned.

Deep Desires

From desire comes will and focus, from will and focus comes action and perception, and from action and perception comes reality.

Your reality. The one you really want to be in. The one you once only thought was a fantasy but now know will in future become real for you.

Hi Raj,

I made the diagrams - haven't really decided if they will be a regular feature or not.

A lot of people didn't really "get" what they were about.

Something to think about. I might make the odd one occasionally ;)
